Sean Walter has spent the better part of the past six weeks hammering home to residents on the North Fork that his is the type of voice they need in the Suffolk County Legislature, where he’s argued his opponent would be little more than an extra vote for the Democratic super majority.

That opponent, Southold Town Councilman Al Krupski, has run a quiet campaign, knocking on doors and letting his record of bipartisan cooperation and fiscal conservatism speak for itself.

Krupski vows to serve East End district

Al Krupski said protecting the interests of Suffolk's East End doesn't need to create clashes with county legislators hailing from more-populous western districts, closer to Jamaica, Queens, than Jamesport.

The Democratic Southold town board member -- a fourth-generation farmer -- is seeking to represent the legislature's 1st District, which is Suffolk's largest, stretching from Fishers Island to Center Moriches. Al Krupski met voters at the Center Post Office Wednesday morning to promote his candidacy in Tuesday’s special election for the 1st District seat in the Suffolk County Legislature. The seat, formerly held by Ed Romaine, is up for grabs since Mr. Romaine was elected Brookhaven Town supervisor last November.

Mr. Krupski was bound for Riverhead after campaigning on the Island, he told the Reporter, to meet with representatives of the Army Corps of Engineers who are dredging waters off the Connecticut coastline with plans to dump what he believes are industrial waste-tainted spoils in Long Island Sound.

Today, Suffolk County Legislature candidate and Southold Town Councilman Al Krupski claimed a major endorsement when the Long Island Federation of Labor, the largest labor organization on Long Island with more than 250,000 members announced its support in the January 15 Special Election. This adds to a number of other important labor endorsements for Krupski including the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association and Suffolk County Community College Faculty Association/NYSUT.

The L.I. Environmental Voters Forum has endorsed Al Krupski in the First Legislative District race.

"A healthy environment and economy are key to the quality of life in this legislative district,” LIEVF chairman Richard Amper said in a news release. ”Al Krupski is by far the more environmentally-responsible candidate for this position."

Krupski faces off against Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter in the Jan. 15 special election. The seat was vacated in November when Leg. Ed Romaine became Brookhaven Town supervisor.

In the release announcing the endorsement, the L.I. Environmental Voters Forum also criticized Walter for “his dreadful record on the environment.”
