Derrick Robinson

Derrick J. Robinson is an Acting County Court Judge who presides over the Drug Court and the Mental Health Courts. These treatment court provide and opportunity for individuals to confront problems with addiction and work to reclaim futures. Prior to becoming a judge was appointed by Andrew Cuomo to the New York Office of the Attorney, as an Assistant Attorney General, where he worked out of the Nassau County Regional Office. He was in the litigation group and responsible for representing State
officials, agencies and employees, in the State and Federal Courts on a wide range of issues.
Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General, Judge Robinson was Chief Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of Brookhaven. There he was the head of the Litigation Group and responsible for supervising 10 attorneys and 7 investigators in the enforcement of town codes and ordinances. Judge Robinson spent years as the Principal Assistant County Attorney in the Suffolk County Attorneys Office, General Litigation Bureau. He has argued in the United States Court of Appeals Second Circuit, the New York State Court of Appeals and the New York State Appellate Division, Second Department.
Judge Robinson is an active member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, presently serving as the President and member of its Executive Committee. He was the founding President of the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association and has written articles
and publicly spoken about Drug and Mental Health Courts and the importance of diversity in the legal profession. Judge Robinson is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. After graduating Howard, he graduated from the Antioch School of Law. He later studied Copyright Law and Municipal Finance at New York Law School. Judge Robinson has been active in his community and mentors young students to achieve personal growth and academic excellence. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Suffolk County Dr. Martin Luther King Commission, The North Amityville Community Economic Council and Amistad. He married the Dr. Pamela C. Allen and a proud father and grandfather.
