The Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court decision in January 2010 reversed a hundred-year precedent of Congressional authority to regulate federal elections. It ruled corporations are people and money is speech, and corporations’ speech with money cannot be regulated. It opened the floodgates of unlimited, secret and unaccountable donations in the election process, and has resulted in our current compromised election process.
