Suffolk candidates for state legislative positions

Committee members for major political parties will be out in force starting Tuesday to gather nominating petitions for their state and local candidates in fall elections.

For the State Senate, the major parties have nominated the following candidates:
1 S.D. —State Sen. Kennth LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) against Gregory-John Fischer of Calverton;
2nd S.D.—State Sen. John Flanagan (R-East Northport) vs. Democrat Peter N. Magistrale of St. James;
3rd S.D.—State Sen. Thomas Croci (R-Sayville) against the winner of a Democratic primary between Joseph Fritz of Brentwood and John DeVito Jr. of Mastic Beach;
4th S.D.—State Sen. Philip Boyle (R-Bay Shore) vs. Democrat John Alberts of North Babylon,
and in the 5th S.D.—State Sen. Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) vs. Democrat James Gaughran of Northport.

For the State Assembly, the parties have named the following candidates:
1 A.D—Assemb. Fred W. Thiele Jr. , an Independence Party member running on the Democratic line, against Republican Heather Collins of East Quogue;
2nd AD—Assemb. Anthony Palumbo (R-Mattituck) vs. Democrat William Schilling of Miller Place;
3rd A.D.—Assemb. Dean Murray (R-Patchogue) against Democrat Gregory Schoen of East Patchogue;
4th A.D. — Assemb. Steven Englebright (D-Setauket) vs. Steven Weissbard of Stony Brook;
5th A.D.—Assemb. Al Graf (R-Holbrook) against Democrat Deborah Slinkoski of Holbrook;
6th A.D.—Assemb. Phillip Ramos (D-Bay Shore) and Republicans have yet name a candidate;
7th A.D.—Assemb. Andrew Garbarino (R-Sayville) against Democrat Nicholas Gambini of Holbrook;
8th A.D. — Assemb. Michael Fitzpatrick (R-St. James) vs. Democrat William Macellaro of Kings Park;
9th A.D.—Assemb. Joseph Saladino (R-Massapeaqua) against Edward Buteria of West Babylon;
10th A.D. — Assemb. Chad Lupinacci (R-Huntington) against Edwin Perez of Huntington;
11th A.D.—Assemb. Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Wyandanch) and Republicans have no immediate candidate;
12th A.D.—Assemb. Andrew Raia (R-East Northport) against Democrat Kevin Mulholland of Deer Park.

Nominating petitions for party candidates or those seeking to challenge them in a primary must be filed by no later than July 14. Candidates for State Senate must have at least 1,000 valid signatures and Assembly candidates need at least 500 signatures.
