Whether it’s prenatal care, reproductive rights, health care, paid family leave, affordable childcare, equitable pay, immigrant and refugee rights, access to clean air and water, or preventing violence – these essentials are all on the chopping block of the Trump agenda. Yet many Republican leaders across the state are literally hiding from their constituents.
Rep. Peter King is one of them! He refuses to hold a Town Hall to listen to his constituents, because he feels it will “turn into a screaming session” that will “diminish democracy.”
On May 7, the Sunday before Mother's Day, National Organization for Women (NOW) New York will join forces with New York's 2nd District Democrats and ATLI to co-host a Women’s Town Hall for Peter King.
Rep. King has voted against paid family leave; against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; against funding family planning in US international aid; and against health coverage that provides abortion. He voted to allow coal companies to dump waste into our streams; he supports the ICE raids that are tearing families apart; and he was leaning to voting yes on the American Health Care Act, which would have left 74,000 of his constituents without health insurance.
Rep. King will be invited to speak with his constituents. Since he has repeatedly refused to hold a Town Hall, we do not expect him to attend. We will also invite local elected officials, community organizers, and advocates to speak, and will host a featured activist training at the close of the Town Hall.
When you raise women, you raise a community! Women's rights are human rights!
All are welcome! Women, men, children - Please come stand in solidarity with your fellow District 2 Constituents!
Bring your voices, your questions, and your issues!
